Charlie Chaplin made in... 1941 (I think) while Hitler was still in power. it's hilarious.

(i would show you a picture, but they don't seem to be working)

Anyway, some friends and I road tripped (yes, it is a verb) this weekend to Mt View and Calico Rock, both of which are smaller than my high school but they are very nice. We hiked up a mt and it was loads of fun.

Last night I read what Martin Heidegger (philosopher) thinks art is. I thought I would share:
"What matters is a first opening of our vision to the fact that what is workly in the work, equipmental in the equipment, and thingly in the thing comes closer to us only when we think the Being of beings."

Yes. Exactly.
Saturday, February 17, 2007

Thanks for the prayers. I'm not getting you out of prison. I'm not sparing your life. Yes, I have done all this and more for others, but the path I choose for you is different from theirs. You'll be blessed, John, if this does not cause you to fall away.' "

"He wants us to surrender our lives to Him and follow Him into the unknown. And if it means a life of suffering, hardship, disappointment, it will be worth it because following Jesus Christ is more powerful and more fulfilling than living with everything in the world minus Him. Have we forgotten this?"

"Their lives could not be explained apart from God."

Thursday, January 25, 2007

Plain M&Ms + almonds = chocolate with almonds. The best.

My art show is all but over. It's up right now. If you didn't get an invitation to come and see my art show, it is probably because you live in a different state, country, or city and I didn't think you would come. If you are in the area it is up until tomorrow at five. If you hurry, you can still see it. Tomorrow and five I am taking it down. (hoorah!). If you live in the Dallas area you might get a chance to see everything after I graduate. I'll set my art out haphazardly around the house and you can come and see it.

For those of you with little contact to the art world, the art show I am referring to is a senior requirement. It features the best of my college art pieces hung up in a gallery with lighting and all fanciness so other people can come, look, and enjoy. I made posters and invitation (referred to above) and titled it, etc. The title of my show was "Floating Backwards From Twenty."

Today in class the teacher asked us about the reading we had to do and my brain drew a blank. A thought came to my head, but suddenly I was uncertain where I had read that thought. Of all the readings that I have done recently, which was for this particular class?
All my classes are good. I'm taking visual aesthetics, which is basically the philosophy of art. We read Plato, Aristotle and Hume so far, and tonight I will battle my way through Immanuel Kant's position on art. Fun stuff?

Friday, December 01, 2006

So the poll is in. Being a Bible major doesn't necessarily make you closer to Jesus. I suppose that's just the way life goes.

I love painting. It's so wonderful that my homework is painting. I can't complain at all.

Read the above book.

Two weeks to freedom (from classes).

Sunday, November 26, 2006

I probably should have put this in earlier. Spiritual Bulimia is a concept in a book by Shane Claiborne [check him out]. It's kind of like this:
"I had gorged myself on all the products of the Christian industrial complex but was spiritually starving to death. I was marked by an overconsumptive but malnourished spirituality, suffocated by Christianity but thirsty for God. [Shane Claiborne The Irresistible Revolution]

Over the holidays I only read one book. Rob Bell.

So, I'm an art major. My brain thinks in art terms, sees the world in art terms. In fact, art is everywhere. I see it in everything. My math teacher says that she sees geometry and math everywhere, from chapel talks to stage sets. So I wonder, if you're a Bible major, does that mean that you see Jesus everywhere?

Saturday, November 11, 2006

I have long said I don't play first person shooters and I've stood by that standard. As of yesterday, I can no longer say I don't play. I have a great amount of fun at a LAN party yesterday where we played unreal tournament. I was one of the worst people there and it didn't matter. yea!

one week to thanksgiving break and counting.
